Accuracy
Accuracy is one of our primary editorial responsibilities.
Before publishing information, we aim to verify important factual claims using reliable sources whenever reasonably possible.
Reporters and editors should:
- Verify names, dates, locations, figures, and quotations.
- Use original or authoritative sources when available.
- Attribute information appropriately.
- Avoid presenting rumors as established facts.
- Clearly identify information that has not yet been independently verified.
Breaking News
Breaking stories often develop rapidly.
We may publish verified information as it becomes available rather than waiting until every detail of an event is known.
When a story develops, we may:
- Update the article.
- Add new information.
- Correct earlier information.
- Change the headline where necessary.
- Add additional context or responses.
We aim to clearly communicate uncertainty when facts remain incomplete.
Sources
mPaper may rely on:
- Official statements
- Government agencies
- Court documents
- Public records
- Interviews
- Eyewitness accounts
- Company announcements
- Recognized news organizations
- Experts
- Research institutions
- Other credible sources
Whenever practical, original sources are preferred.
Anonymous Sources
Anonymous sources may be used when there is a legitimate reason to protect a source’s identity and the information is considered newsworthy.
Editors should assess the credibility, motivation, and access to information of anonymous sources before publication.
Fairness
Fairness does not require every story to present every possible viewpoint.
However, when serious allegations are made against an identifiable individual or organization, we will normally attempt to obtain their response when practical and appropriate.
Headlines
Headlines should accurately represent the substance of the article.
We aim to avoid headlines that deliberately:
- Misrepresent the underlying story.
- Exaggerate unsupported claims.
- Present speculation as fact.
- Create a materially false impression.
Opinion and Analysis
Opinion, commentary, and analysis may contain the author’s interpretation or viewpoint.
Where appropriate, such material should be distinguishable from straight news reporting.
Sponsored Content
Commercial or sponsored material should be appropriately labeled.
Payment for sponsored content does not give an advertiser control over independent editorial coverage.
Artificial Intelligence
Technology and artificial intelligence tools may be used to assist with research, transcription, translation, organization, proofreading, or other newsroom processes.
However, responsibility for published material remains with mPaper.
Important factual information should be checked before publication, regardless of whether technological tools were involved in preparing the article.
Corrections
When we identify a significant factual error, we aim to correct it promptly and transparently.
